March is Mending Month!
Join us with your personal mending projects, and learn brand new skills through beginner workshops!
Textile artist and activist Flora Collingwood-Norris has declared that March is Mending Month! Transformative mending practices such as darning, sashiko, and needle-felting are an incredible way to take care of your clothing, while embellishing and enhancing the original piece. Wearing visibly-mended clothing shows the world that you want to use what you already own, rather than supporting the fast-fashion industries.
In the spirit of all-things-mended, our March Mending Sessions will help you to help you repair and repurpose your clothing! Already darning and patching your clothes? No problem! Get inspired by Learning Hub Artist-In-Residence Sonia Chow, who uses “reused” materials as a part of her environmentally sustainable art practice. Or, learn how to crochet and knit so that you’re prepared to patch any knitwear in your wardrobe.
Mending won’t end in March! As a part of our commitment to reducing textile waste, mending programs will continue through the year – sign up for our newsletter to receive upcoming workshops in your inbox each month.
