Jacket, T86.0753
Posted: Jan 8th, 2020 | Collection Spotlight

In honour of the New Lunar Year, our object of the week is a beautiful Chinese embroidered red silk jacket from the 19th century.

This object was chosen for its beautiful red colour, which symbolizes success, happiness, wealth, good fortune, and wards off evil spirits. This jacket features embroidery and appliqués, and was made using hand-sewn techniques. Adorned on the jacket are flowers, butterflies, and cranes.

May the year of the brown earth dog bring health, prosperity and laughter to your household.
