Traditional Greek Costumes and Textiles
More than twenty complete Greek folk costumes form the focus of a major exhibition of traditional Greek costumes and textiles currently on display. Complemented by historical needlework and weaving from three centuries this exhibition is the first major show of Greek material culture in Ontario.
Items in the exhibition were drawn from the Greek communities of Toronto and Windsor, from the collection of Nancy Athanassopoulou-Mylonas, and from the Museum’s own holdings. Represented are many of the regions of Greece, from the various island groups to the mountainous areas of Macedonia. The show highlights the exquisite craftsmanship and variety of techniques to be found throughout Greece.
