Tatreez: Manajel and Tahriri (couching) Workshop (Intermediate)

Saturday, April 25 | 1-4 PM
$40 | General
$30 | Textile Museum Members

Join us in taking your tatreez practice a step further in this hands-on workshop with Learn Palestine. We’ll begin with a discussion on the historical significance of tatreez and its importance within Palestine and the diaspora. We will explore stories embedded into textiles such as the Palestinian thobe featured in the Made by Many exhibition, while learning about natural colours, dyes, and the diversity of stitches used across Palestine. Participants will then learn to embroider using waste canvas and be introduced to the techniques of manajel and tahriri (couching).

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a sample piece using these techniques and stitches. Finished pieces can be appliquéd onto clothing, framed, or displayed as a wall hanging.

No previous experience is required. All materials are provided along with step by step videos guides as well as other tatreez resources. If you require reading glasses, it is highly recommended to bring them to this workshop.

For any questions or accessibility accommodations, please contact Isabelle Sain (isain@textilemuseum.ca).
