Tatreez is a traditional form of Palestinian cross‑stitch passed down through generations. In this side‑by‑side program for children and their adult caregivers, we will explore the cultural and historical significance of tatreez and its importance as both a beautiful art form and a means of preserving tradition. Facilitated by Learn Palestine, this workshop introduces participants to the basics of cross‑stitching while also examining the meanings behind tatreez motifs, the distinct regional variations of Palestinian thobes, tatreez’s role in women’s empowerment, and its use as a form of self‑expression. By the end of the workshop, each participant will create a wearable tatreez button.
No previous experience is required. All materials are provided.
For any questions or accessibility accommodations, please contact Isabelle Sain (isain@textilemuseum.ca).
