Sustainable Textile Teach-In: Sketch to Stitch – Found Materials in Artmaking
Using several mixed textile techniques of stitching, printing and mark making, artist Liz Pead makes stitched landscapes from just about anything she can get her hands on – from recycled hockey gear to silk thread, with some sticks and stones thrown in the middle for good luck.
Join Liz in exploring the possibilities in found materials in our next online Sustainable Teach-In. Create a stitched landscape or abstract space using everyday objects from your home. All levels of experience are welcome.
Please prepare the following:
- Scrap fabric, plastic netting from produce packaging, coloured paper, foam from meat or vegetable packages, painted canvas, yarn, etc.
- Scissors (ideally fabric scissors, but any kind will do)
- A needle and thread, preferably in assorted colours
- Fabric base for your artwork (approximately 8” x 10” ) – some options are framed canvas or thicker fabric such as canvas, burlap, or denim
- Embroidery hoop, empty picture frame or even an old cookie sheet (optional)
