Join us for a four-week introduction to sock knitting with Kathleen Miao. Throughout the program knitters will learn the skills of picking up stitches, decreasing stitches and shaping the heel and the toe. This sock workshop series is for anyone who has never knitted socks before.

Some knitting experience is required; (i.e., can make a knit stitch and a purl stitch).  This is intended for knitters that haven’t made the jump to 3D objects but can knit simple items.

Skills and techniques:

Week 1: Toe (Judy’s magic cast on, increase)

Week 2: Foot and forethought heel placement (knitting in the round)

Week 3: Cuff (stretchy bind-off)

Week 4: Heel (picking up stitches, decreases, Kitchener stitch)

Materials:

Please bring 2 circular needles of the same size, or one of 32” or longer for magic loop. Alternatively a set of double pointed needles.

Yarn is provided.

Please contact Isabelle Sain (isain@textilemuseum.ca) for any questions or accessibility accommodations.
