Second Life: Sustainable Textiles Showcase

Opening Friday, August 7, 1-4 PM

Second Life: Sustainable Textile Workshops is a series of free, sustainability-focused workshops developed by the Textile Museum of Canada in collaboration with contemporary local artists. Bringing together ecological thinking and creative practice, the series invites participants to explore textile making through the lens of environmental stewardship. To date, more than 200 participants have engaged with the program, rethinking materials and exploring textile processes, decolonial methodologies, and sustainable craft traditions as creative responses to the climate crisis.

Join us on Friday, August 7, from 1:00–4:00 PM to celebrate the opening of this community exhibition and recognize the creativity and dedication of the workshop facilitators and participants who made it possible.

Since the program’s launch in 2026, five workshop series have introduced participants to a range of sustainable textile practices. The works created through these sessions are brought together for the first time in this exhibition, on view until October 4, 2026. What began as introductory workshops has evolved into a vibrant collection of original artworks showcasing techniques including mixed-media weaving, crochet, kumihimo braiding, quilting, and punch needle.
