Phulkari Embroidery with Rafia Shafiq

Join artist Rafia Shafiq in a workshop inspired by the exhibition Chase by Jagdeep Raina. Learn about the Punjabi embroidery technique of Phulkari, which means flower work, from the words phul (flower) and kari (work). Participants will not only practice embroidering traditional floral motifs inspired by the exhibition, but will also learn about the history and heritage of Phulkari craft. 

Rafia Shafiq is a craft artist based in Oakville, working on reviving the craft of Phulkari. She has conducted various workshops across the Greater Toronto Area including Art Gallery of Mississauga, Peel Art Gallery, Museum & Archives, Sheridan College and Contemporary Textile Studio Co-op. Her work has been exhibited at multiple craft shows including Burlington, Mississauga and Oakville.
