Cold Comfort: New and Improved Souvenirs of Canada
The traditional souvenir pillow is reimagined in this collaboration between DodoLab and the Textile Museum of Canada. Selections from the TMC’s historical collection of souvenir pillows, which celebrated community identity, personal narratives, local and national pride, are featured in conjunction with new versions of the tourist artifact created by DodoLab along with visitors to the TMC. Cold Comfort extends DodoLab and the Textile Museum of Canada’s ongoing explorations of contemporary notions of social fabric, which are increasingly non-traditional and complex, and offers the opportunity for visitors to explore these ideas by creating new pillow souvenirs of their own. Cold Comfort is linked with DodoLab’s concurrent program of work at Harbourfront Centre and their growing collection of visual artifacts and iconography capturing and expressing emerging ideas of Canada.
