Family Workshop: Weaving in Relationship

Textiles have always been about gathering, communicating, and belonging across generations. Together, you and a youth in your life, will create woven pieces where threads become a language of connection. Stories, knowledge, and care have long been carried through the patient movement of hands working with fibres. In this workshop, participants will learn basic weaving techniques while collaboratively creating a small woven artwork to take home.
This workshop is designed for one adult and one youth to participate together. All materials will be provided.
One adult ticket purchase is mandatory for every child ticket purchased.
Facilitator Bio
Venetia Galanaki is a weaver and natural dyer from Eastern Crete, Greece. Her textile work is deeply rooted in the locality of materials, practices, and ways of understanding and relating to the craft. She researches and practices traditional Cretan weaving, learning from the women of the island and exploring weaving as a carrier of collective memory and identity as well as a mode of relating to the landscape. She facilitates workshops in traditional Cretan weaving and natural dyeing as a way to collectively explore these relationships through practice.
