This workshop was designed for 2SLGBTQI+ community members and is generously sponsored by Community One Foundation.
In this hands-on workshop, participants are invited to play and create tactile sensory collages that utilize The Textile Musuem’s treasure trove of materials. Participants will create art that plays with our sensory feelings of touch, adding another layer to our visual art creation and allowing us to consider what a piece of art can physically feel like. Lead by artist Cleopatria Peterson as a part of the Crip Collective cohort, this low barrier workshop will encourage participants to have fun as they explore different combinations of materials and create collages that push the boundaries of being flat and paper and celebrate art that can also be used for stimming.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Explore how art can be tactile
- Understand art creation through a disability lens
- Create and complete their own tactile collage that utilizes different materials
- Experience art creation as a play
- Build community by creating art in a collaborative space
This is a beginner-friendly workshop with no previous experience required. All materials and step-by step guidance will be provided.
For any accessibility needs, please contact Isabelle Sain (isain@textilemuseum.ca)

About Second Life: Sustainable Textile Workshops
Second Life: Sustainable Textile Workshops is a series of free; sustainability focused workshops developed with the Textile Museum of Canada and contemporary local artists. The series converges ecological thinking with art-making opportunities for our community. Starting in January 2026, each month, the Museum will bring in an artist who confronts the climate crisis by rethinking materials and reimagining textile processes, decolonial methodologies, and sustainable craft traditions. Together, artist and participants will reform reused materials to create new works of art through a variety of techniques. These textile-focused artistic mediums will include weaving, embroidery, crocheting, quilting, natural dyeing, felting, upcycled fashion, or mixed-media fibre practices.
