Drop-In Activity: Appliqué and Hand-Weaving
IN-PERSON HANDS-ON ACTIVITY
FREE, 12-5 pm
Our felt appliqué activity is inspired by the artists of Double Vision: Jessie Oonark and Victoria Mamnguksualuk. Both women worked with appliqué in the creation of nivinngajuliaat (wall hangings) with felt and wool duffel, depicting people and animals.
Appliqué is created by cutting out fabric motifs (shapes) and applying them to a larger background fabric with stitching or glue. You can use appliqué to tell a story, or create a dynamic image.
We will also have a hand-weaving available, with larger frame looms and individual cardboard looms.
Our Learning Hub activities are for all ages – we have sewing needles and thread for older visitors, and glue for our smaller guests. Education volunteers and staff will be onsite to help you make something to take home with you!
