Intro to Weaving – Wheelie Awesome Morning (Beginner)

This workshop is developed exclusively for our disabled and neurodivergent community. A follow up accessibility form will be sent once registration is complete.
Have a “Wheelie Awesome Morning” learning to weave a coaster, bag charm, or zipper pull with disabled fibre arts instructor, and wheelchair user Elizabeth (Liz) McCready. This is a workshop by and for the disability community that provides private use of the Textile Museum for a relaxed, sensory-friendly space. Following the workshop there’s a short, relaxed, self-guided tour of the museum across both floors.
Everyone in the disability community is welcome, no matter if you’ve never done weaving or other fibre arts, or if you used to but don’t know how to adapt crafting to your current disability and/or sensory needs. If you want to learn to make throws, cat or service dog mats, or get started with adaptive crafting, this workshop is crafted for you!
Ticket includes all materials, self-guided access of the exhibitions, and a swag bag. (Service/guide dogs get their own mini swag bag too).

Facilitator Bio:
Elizabeth McCready (she/her) is a Toronto based disabled multidisciplinary textile and fibre artist, and graphic designer. She spent elementary school in New Zealand where her nana taught her to knit at age six and she went to school next to a sheep farm. She has university training in digital art, visual arts curriculum and instruction, and drawing. Elizabeth is self-taught in crochet, felting, weaving, quilting, yarn dyeing, and hand-sewing, and heat presses her graphic designs onto fabric. In 2026, she is engaged professional development in machine sewing and weaving. Her artists practice is centred on designing and crafting adaptive accessories including wheelchair bags for exhibition, personal use, and teaching.
