Do you have garments to mend and off-cuts to use? Join us at the Museum on Wednesday, October 7th, for a free Mending Station workshop facilitated by designer Dehmin O Cleland!
Dehmin O Cleland (Ojibwe/Odawa) is a Toronto based designer whose practice spans far from Lingerie fashion to Powwow Regalia. Informed by Dehmin’s troubleshooting design process, participants are invited to learn how to rework garments using appliqué techniques for mending. As a mending method, applique can cover a stain or enhance the style to a garment. As an example, Dehmin will merge two garments to create a new personalized piece.
All materials are provided. Participants are welcome to bring small scraps from their collection to use in this workshop.

The Mending Station, generously funded by TD Friends of the Environment, is an Indigenous-led, public-facing repair and learning hub that centres garment mending as both a creative and sustainable practice. Each session will welcome up to 15 participants and is led by an invited textile artist or designer who brings their own practice, knowledge, and approach to repair into the space. What was originally conceived by Raven Spiratos as an extension of Eye of the Earth, a solo exhibition by Samuel Nnorom, has now become an extension of the Museum’s upcoming exhibition: Always in Fashion. This exhibition, curated by Amber-Dawn Bear Robe, is an engaging exploration of Indigenous design languages and their transformative impacts on the fashion landscape.
