The jolly woman says, "Don't worry, young one, it's only a little spill. We have come in today to see the new laks (ceramic vessels) that we heard about. Have you seen them? They come all the way from Siyaj-Chan" ('many-skies,' the ancient name of the Maya site of Uaxactún in Guatemala). "Stay clear of those men over there, they're protecting the Ajaw (Maya ruler) and they're quick to jump on any kid who they think is up to mischief. Here, have a little bite of this before you go." She gives you a few slices of a creamy green fruit on a leaf...an avocado. It is delicious - it tastes like it was sprinkled with fruit juice and salt. You finish the slices and thank her, then move on towards the pyramid.
