Maya blouse

In pre-Spanish society in Mexico, Central America, and in particular South America, the weaving of textiles attained the highest level of quality and artistic expression, employing a huge range of techniques. Textiles were highly valued and served as measures of wealth and status, burial goods, badges of office, and ritual offerings. Intensive efforts were devoted to all aspects of textile production, from the gathering and processing of materials, to the exploration of techniques, and the development of sophisticated designs.
