WHAT: This Wari jar has eccentric eyes and a white face mask which may indicate that it represents a dead person. Geometric motifs such as those that surround the face and headdress on this vessel were important features of Wari art. The vertically divided eyes of this face are a typical design motif of Wari ceramics.
HOW: Mould-made with hand-modelled details; slip-painted and burnished.
