WHAT: Jointed figure. Often found associated with burials and in pairs. The purpose of the figures or the reason the limbs were made to be movable remains unclear. The complete lack of decoration on the body suggests that this figure may have been clothed in a miniature garment in ancient times. Any perishable attire, as well as the leather or cordage that would have been used to attach the limbs, would not have survived in the archaeological record in this part of the world. The limbs of this figure have been reattached in modern times.

HOW: Mould-made face with hand-built torso; unslipped brown earthenware with traces of ochre pigment.
