WHEN: Late Intermediate Period/ Late Horizon, A.D. 1200-1550
WHAT: Fragment of cloth once part of a large mantle. Other pieces with this pattern have been found cut up and reused in ancient times as small cushions to support muñecas, or funerary dolls. The diagonal bands with positive/negative images in red and yellow can be seen to illustrate the dualistic nature of the Andean world view.
HOW: Plain weave with weft substitution; cotton warp and camelid weft threads.
