WHERE: Chancay Valley, Central Coast, Peru, possibly Lauri
WHEN: Late Intermediate Period/Late Horizon, A.D. 1200 - 1550
WHAT: Lower border fragment, probably from the bottom of a tunic. The animal could be a young deer or young camelid, the long ears suggest the latter. This is probably an example of a coastal culture that has continued producing textiles in their local style, with their own imagery, through the Inka period.
Fragment Length: 47 cm
HOW: Slit tapestry. Camelid warps with cotton and camelid wefts.
