National Volunteer Week
Posted: Apr 24th, 2020 | Volunteering

April 19-25 is National Volunteer Week 2020! Our volunteers are an essential part of our organization and we are grateful for their ongoing support of the Museum.

After the Museum closed to the public on Friday March 13, Mab Coates-Davies, Head of Public and Volunteer Engagement, reached out to find out what our volunteers have been up to. Her inbox has been full of responses including photos, stories, and plans for the future ever since.

Seeing volunteers create projects, explore new mediums, and share their work and stories has been inspiring, and affirms the community spirit that the Textile Museum of Canada nurtures. At a time when our sense of place has been increasingly disrupted, these messages from the volunteers have been a reassurance that while life will be different moving forward, people will continue to give and create.

Unsurprisingly, our volunteers have been busy contributing to their communities in many ways. Many are making masks for their families, friends, themselves, and as donations to hospitals, or coordinating collective mask-making initiatives. One of our volunteers is making 50 masks a day!

Thank you to our volunteers, who give their time and talents to strengthen our community!  #CheersToVolunteers
