BIPOC Artists and Makers in Residence at the Learning Hub
Posted: Apr 24th, 2023 | Education

We are inviting all BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) artists and makers working with recycled or upcycled materials to apply for this unique opportunity to come work and play in our Learning Hub!

We encourage you to develop a product or create work using the materials available through our Reuse Program. Engage with our visitors and inspire others to explore the endless possibilities of waste as a material. This residency program is made possible through the support of the Chawkers Foundation.

There are three available spots for this residency.

Residencies will run for a duration of 3 months, starting in July 2023. The first residency will run from July 1 to September 30, the second October 1 to December 31, and the third from January 1 to March 31, 2024. Selected artists will receive CAD $4,000.

Over the course of 3 months, Artists in Residence will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating three Sustainable Textile Teach-Ins, to be delivered online and in-person at the Learning Hub (one per month).
  • Facilitating three weekend drop-in activities (one per month).
  • Inviting and paying 3 guest artists or speakers (once per month) to support their programs (with a budgeted CARFAC fee of CAD $335 per guest).
  • Being present and engaging with our visitors on-site for at least one half-day per month.
  • Exploring their art practice in a community setting.
  • Creating learning opportunities for our visitors and audience.
  • Presenting their work in the Hub throughout the residency.

Activities include, but are not limited to, workshops, demos, artist talks, open studios, and other participatory programs.

As part of the residency, artists will have access to:

  • Studio/display space
