Join us for an evening celebrating the opening of listening and making: a (Zoom) call and response, the Community Makers 2022 Program Exhibition

listening and making: a (Zoom) call and response is a group exhibition by artists and makers from the Textile Museum of Canada’s community partners featuring a variety of media including dyeing, printing, rug hooking, embroidery, beadwork, hand sewing, soft sculpture, knitting, crochet and more.

The exhibition is the culmination of Community Makers — a program through which the Museum paired 8 diverse social agencies across Toronto with textile artists, delivering 4-week virtual workshops to over 80 participants. Through the facilitators’ thoughtful and caring approaches, the workshops encouraged listening to each other, giving and receiving thoughts and ideas, and prioritizing each participant’s access needs and creative interests. Through textiles we connect to ancestry, language, creativity, and our planet — our individual experiences reverberating in our communities and beyond.

Community Makers is generously supported by the Ruth Mandel Who Gives Fund and TD Private Giving Foundation.
