In-Person Workshop: Resist Block Printing with Salemamad Khatri

At the Contemporary Textile Studio Co-op, 401 Richmond St. W, Toronto

General $85 Members and Students $75

Join artist, textile dyer and printer Salemamad Khatri for a hands-on textile block printing workshop. Based in Ajrakhpur, Gujarat, India, Khatri collaborated with contemporary artist Swapnaa Tamhane to produce the textiles for the exhibition Swapnaa Tamhane: Mobile Palace, organized by ROM.  Salemamad and Abdulaziz Khatri, trade manager for Khamir—a platform promoting the artisanal traditions of the Kachchh district — will be in Toronto for a limited time only. This workshop is a great opportunity to learn about Ajrakh fabric and see examples of the blocks and the printing and dyeing process used to create its complex patterns.

Participants will create a piece by block printing with a resist and dyeing in an indigo vat.  All materials will be provided. All skill levels are welcome.

This workshop is co-hosted by the Contemporary Textile Studio Co-op.
