Join Co-Curators Julia Brucculieri and Raven Spiratos in conversation with Co-Director & Chief Curator Armando Perla for a a thoughtful discussion on their exhibition development process, which involved working collaboratively with artist Samuel Nnorom. Through the lens of Nnorom’s striking textile-based works, Eye of the Earth highlights the important and timely themes of colonization, forced migration, displacement, overconsumption, production, environmental degradation and identity. This talk will delve into the artist’s and curators’ shared vision, exploring how these intertwined narratives shaped the exhibition.
“Eye of the Earth” is the first solo museum show in Ontario by multidisciplinary Nigerian artist Samuel Nnorom. Nnorom’s sculptural artworks, crafted from Ankara (African print fabric) and Okrika (secondhand garments), are presented alongside Nigerian textiles from the Museum’s collection and photos and videos from Nnorom’s personal archive, creating a multi-faceted dialogue on migration, displacement, identity, overconsumption, and interconnectedness.
